Apocalypse to the Union, Chapter 9

Apocalypse (黙示録 (アポカリプソ) Apokaripuso?), also known as the Book of Revelations, is the first artifact to be discovered in the world. It is a loyal servant of God. It works in conjunction with the Roundtable to operate the Quests.

Overview[]

Apocalypse takes the form of a medium-sized book with a brown leather cover with gold plated corner. When it wishes to speak, it gains a monstrous face along the spine and covers of the book, which consists of sharp teeth, a long tongue and bulging eyes. Every three months, when all the seats of the Roundtable are filled, it dispenses the latest set of Quests and when the deadline passes it gives out the Rewards and Penalties.

Personality[]

Apocalypse possess an overall hostile and sadistic personality towards humanity and Negators, constantly trying to intimidate or mock them. It is very loyal and devoted to God, referring to Luna as "Exalted One", and laughing with glee as multiple Suns manifest before the Negators. However, it also holds the quests in the highest regards, as it shows disgust and contempt for Move interfering with the quest for Sick because Andy is too powerful for them, to the point it gives the Negators the reward in spite of them technically failing the quest, though it makes clear that they aren't friends.

Despite the above however, they deep down care about Juiz, and like Victor, doesn't want to see her fight anymore, as when her reincarnation's location is discovered, Apocalypse sets up a quest to destroy the world by either the Negators lose to the Master Rules, or face the penalty Revolution.

Plot[]

History[]

Apocalypse was created by Luna in the 1st Loop where he was found by Juiz and Victor when they formed the first Union. As Juiz remained the Ark Rider for 99 Loops and Victor could survive Ragnarok, they spent many years together. Juiz even developed a fondness for him despite being an enemy.

Unchange Arc[]

Apocalypse hovered above the Roundtable at The Union's headquarters as Andy and Fuuko made their debut in the organization.[1]

Spoil Arc[]

Apocalypse reveals the Quest set, including the penalty: UMA Galaxy. While Top is explaining the Quests to Fuuko, Andy jumps onto the table and grabs Apocalypse, demanding to know which Quest is the hardest. Apocalypse bites off his hands and tells him the capture of Spoil has the highest difficulty - Andy signs himself, Fuuko and Shen up to complete the Quest.

Unrepair Arc[]

When the deadline arrives, Apocalypse gives out the Quest Rewards. However, the Union failed to capture Unseen, and as such he spews out Galaxy as the penalty and laughs as he wonders whether they will be able to overcome this new rule.

Unbelievable Arc[]

Apocalypse gives out the Four Seasons Quest Set, but shortly afterwards Billy betrays the Union, intending to steal the Roundtable and Apocalypse. Burn, Rip and Latla are also present as Under nearly escapes, but Billy miscalculates and uses Unjustice on Tatiana, forcing her to attack him - this pushes Apocalypse away where Fuuko catches him; he overwhelms her to try to escape but is quickly recaptured by Phil, who is immune to this effect. Without both artifacts, neither side can receive quests or rewards and Billy concedes a draw, since they only need to steal Apocalypse before the deadline. Apocalypse is placed in an unbreakable cage for safekeeping, where he insults the negators.

Summer Arc[]

After Summer enters Phase 2, Top arrives carrying Chikara and Apocalypse. Apocalypse laughs and explains that in every loop thus far they've never managed to defeat Summer after its phase change.

Ragnarok Arc[]

After the death of Spring, Fuuko is attacked by Ruin but Juiz makes a deal with Luna to skip them one week to the quest rewards, which include the addition of UMA Ghost. Later, Apocalypse laughs maniacally as the Pseudo-Revolution is set in motion, saying their efforts have been pointless since Revolution was the penalty anyways and then Fuuko wouldn't have been killed. Andy grabs him as Juiz tells him to not kill him, but Apocalypse states that he doesn't care if Andy kill him since there are no more Quests before Ragnarok.

During Ruin and Seal's attack on Union HQ, after Fuuko becomes the new First Seat, Apocalypse explains how the Ark works - she must remain on the Ark for one minute per seat while God attacks the Earth. As Fuuko waits, Apocalypse remains at the Roundtable as Luna manifests to speak with the new Ark Rider. After Fuuko loops, Apocalypse laughs as multiple Sun avatars appears and destroy the planet, marking the end of the 100th Loop.

Union Arc[]

Apocalypse is revealed to be buried underneath Stonehenge in the 101st loop, which is then uncovered by Fuuko. They are then awakened by Fuuko to start the quests once more, only to find Fuuko passing on them, growing more and more frustrated as they are forced to spit out a total of 26 UMAs and fast forward time by 26 years as penalties as a result, all a part of Fuuko's plan to prevent all of the Negators' tragedies. They can only react in frustration when Fuuko finally agrees on a set of quest that offers them a third seat, Void, and Remember. When Void is brought back for the quest rewards, they express frustration over their success before getting punched by the boxer instinctively. After rewarding the Union for their success, they go back to sleep, but not before vowing to destroy the "lowly vessels" with their next set of quests.

Sick Arc[]

Apocalypse shows up to sadistically explain the nature of the Master Rules, and how the first ten cannot be destroyed. Later, they question why Move interfered with the Quest for Sick, and curses them because they wanted "entertainment".

Unburn Arc[]

Despite the Union not neutralizing Sick due to Move's interference, they did not add a penalty, and rewarded them the location of Unburn.

Unjustice Arc[]

Apocalypse has a dream about a previous conversation they had with Juiz, explaining to her the nature of the loops' reincarnation. After waking up shortly before the start of the new round of quests, they overhear Fuuko and Nico talking about the location of Juiz's reincarnation. When the quests begin, they give out a set that includes two Master Rules, with the penalty for denying it being Revolution once again. Fuuko takes the quests, but apologizes to them. Confused, Fuuko states that just like Victor, Apocalypse doesn't want to see Juiz fight anymore, much to the artifact's indignation. When they ask how they can be so sure of what Juiz wants, she states she feel in love with "the same undying person", with more of the flashback revealing they and Juiz did have more of a friendship than previously believed, with the book going back to sleep afterwards to stew in their thoughts.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Quest Arbitration: Apocalypse's purpose is to give out Quests and arbitrate their Rewards and Penalties - as such he is granted several abilities in order to fulfill this duty. Furthermore he is fully cognizant of his experiences in previous loops and has a total understanding of the Quest and Loop mechanics. Apocalypse never lies about the rules, but is under no compulsion to explain them beyond the minimum, as such hidden aspects like point sharing and skips have to be discovered.
    • Quest Initiation: Every three months, when the Roundtable is filled, Apocalypse gives out a Quest set and declares the targets, participant count, rewards, penalty and deadline. This is represented by some of his pages ripping themselves out of him and floating in circles over the Roundtable. Afterwards, Negators may sign up to participate in the Quests. The Quest contents seem to be random. Apocalypse seems to have an intrinsic sense of when Quests are completed or failed, since he is at no point informed of any Quest result.
    • Reward and Penalty Imparting: When a Quest is cleared, Apocalypse gives the Reward. Usually the rewards are the location of an UMA, Negator or Artifact, for which Apocalypse spews out a large globe with a leather-like appearance and places large red pins to indicate the locations. The globe and pins remain active for seven days. In cases where the reward is something else, such as the language unification or additional seats, he simply declares them and they happen. When a Penalty is incurred, the respective UMA flies out of Apocalypse's mouth and travels to its habitat, whereupon its rule takes effect. Both of these are consciously managed by Apocalypse and he has the authority to make judgment calls in special cases, such as declaring the Sick quest cleared despite Move's interference.
    • Telepathy: Apocalypse displays the ability to share his thoughts with others, but is only seen doing it in service of the Quests[2]. He is also privy to God's will, presumably also through this ability. There seems to be no range limit, as he can easily communicate with the Ten Superior Rules while they are in the Master Room. Through this, points and Roundtable seats may also be transferred at any distance even with people not currently in communication[3].
    • Master Room Management: Apocalypse controls the opening to the Master Room, may toggle its protection effect and teleport anyone in and out - he only uses this in service of the Quests and operates under strict time limits[2]. However he can't teleport anyone outside while the protection is off.
  • Information Attack: As the longest-lived artifact, when he imparts his memories unto someone the sudden influx of information renders the target incapacitated and may prove lethal is contact is long enough. It seems this also means he must impart his memories willingly, since when Andy grabbed him by surprise he wasn't overwhelmed[4].
  • Bite: Apocalypse's bite is strong enough to cleanly cut off someone's hands.
