Autumn (オータム Ōtamu?) is the Concept-Type UMA that embodies the season of Autumn.
It is the titular antagonist of the Autumn Arc.
Appearance[]
Autumn appears as a large insectoid creature, with features of a cicada and a spider. Autumn has a plain looking face with six empty holes, later revealed to be a covering and hides its eyes and a human-like mouth. It has six large hooked legs it uses to impale its victims.
Personality[]
Autumn enjoys feeding on human life and gaining knowledge from them as books and angrily demands to be brought unique stories.
Plot[]
Unbelievable Arc[]
Autumn is one of the four season UMAs along with Summer, Spring and Winter that are targets of Apocalypse's quest. She is the only one that needs to be captured instead of neutralized.
Autumn Arc[]
Fuuko and Andy are tasked with finding and contacting Anno Un, author of To You, From Me, since Juiz noticed it seems to predict future events but wishes to get more information. After managing to pen her own manga to submit to Shueisha, Anno contacts Fuuko and asks her and Andy to come to Canada, where they encounter Autumn.
They engage Autumn despite Anno's warning and fail do deal any damage, being forced to retreat to Anno's cabin. Anno uses G-Liner to turn Andy into a book with a copy of its claw and Soul Caliber to place Fuuko inside the book so they might grow stronger by understanding each other better. After growing closer and preventing Fuuko's assassination at the hands of Sean, they return to Autumn with Rip, Latla and Backs. Andy's improved technique allows him to injure Autumn, but its regeneration is still to much to reach the core, so he requests that Rip uses Blade Runner to make the injuries unable to heal. Rip tries to do so, but as he still much younger, his attacks fail to take effect. Seeing this Anno creates a copy of Life Is Strange to age up Rip but is aged to dust in the process. Now at full capacity, they are able to cleave Autumn and place its core in an Unback shell which is given to the Union by Latla.
Ragnarok Arc[]
After it is revealed that killing the other three season UMAs has led to a phenomenon similar to Revolution, thus speeding up Ragnarok, Juiz questions Autumn about whether killing it would help re-stabilize the planet, however Autumn tells her it would only worsen the effects.
Union Arc[]
It returns as the first quest taken by the new Union. Fuuko explains how tough it was to take it down in the last loop, to Nico's exasperation. However, due to Unavoidable currently in the hands of someone else, they take the UMA quest first. To deal with it, Fuuko decides to empower Gina, who still struggles with her Unchange, by utilizing the same technique Anno Unn did in the last loop. To do this, Fuuko willing has herself affected by it's juniors' Book Transmutation so Gina's soul can travel back to the 100th loop and meet her previous self. As this is happening, Nico and Ichico use "chaff" to distract Autumn and protect the Negators. Once Gina gains a full understanding of her Unchange, the UMA is stopped from killing the two scientists before being cleaved down the middle, right through it's core, with an Unchange Sword by a now resolute Gina, killing it instantly. It's last words are one of disbelief.
Abilities[]
Book Transmutation: When Autumn impales someone with one of its legs, their body starts turning into a book, which it reads in order to learn their stories, it desires unique and interesting stories. The thickness of the book corresponds to the person's age: most people's book form seems to be the size of an encyclopedia, while Andy's (and by extension Victor's) book reached all the way to space.
Chestguard: Autumn has a very resistant protective armor that can withstand Andy's Crimson Bullet without suffering any damage and taking mere scratches from Anno Un's Volcano Bullet.
Creation of Spiders: Autumn can generate Juniors similar to spider, protecting its territory and hunting humans for Autumn to read their stories.
Spider Body: Because of her spider-like body, Autumn has 4 pairs of legs that she can use to move around or attack giving her greater mobility.
Immense Strength: Autumn has great physical strength befitting its colossal size. It can cut through an entire building with it's claw with ease.
Immense Durability: Autumn has great physical durability consistent with its colossal size. Even without it's carapace she is tough enough to withstand a few attacks from Andy and Rip together before being defeated. However, it does have a limit, as shown by Gina fully utilizing her Unchange to bypass it.

- Autumn's power to turn people into books is related to the idea that fall is a time for reading in Japanese culture.
- Autumn's insectoid appearance may be based on the so-called "autumn cicada" (寒蝉 Kansen?), which sings as autumn begins to arrive. It is often identified with the species Meimuna opalifera, which begins to sing from mid-August until the end of the summer season.
