Kaede Izumo (出雲 楓 Izumo Kaede?), formerly Kaede Akashi (明石 楓 Akashi Kaede?), is the mother of Fuuko Izumo. In the previous loop, she was a former idol.
Appearance[]
Like her daughter, Kaede is a medium height japanese woman with long black hair. She is seen mostly wearing her cafe and idol uniforms.
Personality[]
Kaede is shown to be an emotional and empathetic person. She holds on to her dream of being an idol and is very grateful towards Kurusu for the chances shes been afforded. She practices diligently and even refines her routines to help her elderly audience. Sean describes her as a kind person, beloved by all sorts of people much like Fuuko. Kaede is also shown to have been a fan of To You, From Me, which later became her daughter's favorite manga.
Plot[]
History[]
Kaede was an idol; during one of her performances she met Raita, whom she later married. Together they hand one daughter: Fuuko Izumo. They were a happy family. On 2010, as she and her husband were boarding a plane to go on a trip, they both hugged and kissed their daughter goodbye - unbeknownst to them Fuuko had just become Unluck, leading to a meteor striking the plane after they boarded, killing everyone on board. The guilt over this event lead to Fuuko becoming suicidal.
Intro Arc[]
After To You, From Me ends, Fuuko is finally ready to end her life, hoping to keep others safe from her ability - when Andy interrogates her as to why, she mentions killing her parents as her greatest guilt.
Autumn Arc[]
While inside Andy's book, Fuuko mentions how keeping the memory of her parents alive means they're not truly dead, inspiring Andy.
Ragnarok Arc[]
Fuuko mentions her parents as one of the things she hopes are better in the next Loop.
Language Arc[]
After Language's defeat, Nico and Ichico head off to Tatiana and Backs' locations to help avert their tragedies. Nico then hands Fuuko a poster, asking her to go to Kurusu. Initially Fuuko rejects the notion, since her tragedy involves a large amount of people, "the enemy of Unluck", but Nico points at one of the festival participants: Kaede Izumo, and urges Fuuko to meet her mother[1].
Unchaste Arc[]
Kaede was born much later in the 101st Loop; despite it already being 2020 she and Raita aren't even dating. Kaede currently works as a maid at a cafe and idol, but due to her extreme clumsiness is fired from the cafe. Fuuko, Sean and Julia are present when she talks with Raita about not going to the concert, which seems to cause Fuuko's hand to fade away and become slightly transparent. Though Looping shouldn't be able to cause paradoxes, as it only goes into the future, Fuuko concludes that her parents meeting is crucial for her survival.
Later, Kaede is performing at a small venue with only a handful of elderly people in the seats. Her voice is very loud and discordant, to the point the people in the seats express that they can feel it in their backs and bones, though that is seemingly the reason they attended at all[2]. Fuuko, Julia and Sean, all affected by Unseen, trail Kaede backstage just in time to watch her get fired. She doesn't have a change of clothes so she has to go home in her stage outfit, but tries to remain positive and say hello to other workers she comes across. Once she gets home, Fuuko goes to meet her - Kaede bursts out crying and begins apologizing, thinking its Raita visiting her.
Kaede is baffled that Fuuko was able to get replacement band members so quickly. She mentions that she and Kurusu used to be in the same group before Kurusu was scouted, which is another severe deviation from the previous Loop. Kaede starts crying, feeling like shes wasted the many chances shes had but Fuuko tells her people like her always seal the deal. Before Kaede can respond, Fuuko commands Move, taking both of them to the Union where Nico is training Rip, Billy and Tella with various Psycho-Pods and attempting to use Unforgettable externally. Though initially confused, Kaede jumps in to participate in the training. Some time later, Fuuko makes Move to send her back when Raita arrives at her apartment, obviously exhausted and with deep, dark eye-bags.
Once the Idol Festival begins, Kaede's group beats their first competitors - showing Kaede is a gifted singer. Shortly after, Kurusu arrives, wearing a different outfit than expected and with a much more serious attitude. She approaches Kaede and declares she's "done losing" and, without a band of her own, walks onto the stage and uses her newly evolved Unchaste, causing Rip, Billy, Shen and Tella to fall in love with her and join her band. Kaede states that that isn't the Kururu she knows but announces that she also wont lose.[3]
