Longing

Longing (ロンギング Rongingu^?) is a city located in Nevada, United States. It is a recurring location in the series and the main setting of the Spoil Arc.

During and following the events of the Spoil Arc, the town is destroyed and all data of its existence is wiped. All of its inhabitants died, save for some children who were rescued and entered into The Union's orphanage program.^[1]

Overview[]

Longing is located in Las Vegas Bay, Nevada, The United States of America. According to Shen, a ton of cowboy movies are filmed there.^[2]

A week prior to the Spoil Arc, Spoil appeared in the middle of the city and began turning people into zombies.^[3]

Plot[]

Spoil Arc[]

The Union traces UMA Spoil to Longing after identifying a zombie found in New York as a resident of the town. By the time Andy, Fuuko and Shen arrive, almost the entire population has been turned into mindless zombies except for a few children. Andy finds Spoil with the help of one zombie woman who still retained some of her intelligence, and a battle ensues. By the end of the arc, the town had been completely destroyed by a meteor shower summoned from Fuuko’s unluck during the battle against Victor. The union proceeded to erase all records of Longing’s existence.

Autumn Arc[]

When Fuuko meets Andy inside of his past memories, he and his crew take her to Longing for questioning. While chatting in a bar that was offering free drinks, they are all suddenly shot dead by local gang members, who had struck a deal with the bar owner to get Andy’s crew drunk so they could be easily assassinated. Andy survives, learning he’s undead, and kills the gang members. He buries his late friends, and makes the bar owner swear to pour beer on their graves on a specific date every year.

Ragnarok Arc[]

During Juiz’s flashback, she and Victor find Remember in a church in the town of Longing. It is here that Victor tries to kill Juiz to spare her from further suffering, and Juiz uses Remember to erase Victor’s memories. Victor was left unconscious, and was buried by the locals who assumed him to be soldier killed in the recent battle. Some time later, Andy crawled out of his grave, a product of Undead counteracting Remember’s effect.

Trivia[]

Despite being the location where Andy first became conscious, learned he was undead, and buried his first friends, Andy makes no comment on the town during the Spoil Arc. This is likely because the town’s significance was not yet planned out at the time of the arc’s writing.
- The anime added the detail of Andy drinking Budweiser beer while on the ride to Longing, the same type that he requested be poured on the graves of his crewmates.
