Shunkai Yamaoka () also known as Isshin the 12th, is a blacksmith and a negator that was saved by Fuuko and Yusai. He was the holder of Unbreakable in the 101st loop and Haruka Yamaoka's grandfather. He joins the Union as a temporary member until Haruka is of age.
Appearance[]
He is a large, older man with wrinkles, mane of hair, a mustache with three spikes at each end, a pointy beard, and bushy eyebrows. He wears the same armor his granddaughter, Haruka, would wear.
Personality[]
He is a noble defender of his village, as well as a very dotting grandparent to a baby Haruka, so much that he eventually opts to not join the other Union personal when they prepare to time jump again so he can see Haruka grow up.
Plot[]
Spring Arc[]
He is mentioned in passing, his tombstone being shown and that Haruka has now become the next "Unbreakable" by her father.
Negator War Arc[]
He is first seen struggling against the same UMA that eventually killed Haruka's father in the previous loop. Just as he's about to be killed, Yusai manages to slay it and save him. Thankful, Shunkai promises to repay them, but initially refuses to join the Union as he must protect his village in accordance to the village rules. He changes his mind and agrees to help after being told what his granddaughter did in the 100th loop, and vows to help until Unbreakable passes on to her. He then joins the effort in stopping the Bujora war in order to prevent Billy, Tella, and Creed's tragedies from unfolding, creating shields and blockades to defend everyone from gunfire, and later, aerial bombardment.
Unmove Arc[]
Following the recruitment of Shen, Feng, and Mui, he is drafted alongside nine others to infiltrate Chikara's school as its principal to prevent Chikara's tragedy. When UMA Colour appears, he and the other members leave the school to deal with it, with another person replacing him as principal and the school's memory of the Union being erased.
Sick Arc[]
As the rest of the Union prepare to time skip towards the next group of Negators, Shunkai opts to stay behind so he can watch his granddaughter grow up. His fate was left unknown until the Unstoppable Arc, where it's confirmed that he passed away some time before 2012, with Unbreakable and name of Isshin passed down to a older Haruka. During that time, he crafted Unbreakable weapons and items for the Union when its key players return from the time skip.
Unstoppable Arc[]
He shows up in a flashback with Billy to showcase that merely copying Unbreakable isn't enough to gain its full effects, which serves as a clue to how Beast assimilated the negator ability. He later appears alongside the other past Isshins when Haruka looks inside herself to improve her Unbreakable, remaking how her heart and soul have yet to full mature before helping her create a new armor for Top to wear against Beast.
