“ | Why did you... give birth to me first? Why... did you grant people potential? | ” |
—Soul to Luna, Chapter 198 |
Soul (ソウル Sōru?) is the Concept-Type UMA that embodies the concept of soul. He is the "First Master Rule UMA" and is the leader of the Master Rules.
Appearance[]
He appears as a tall handsome man with a lean build. He has a mole underneath his bottom lip. While he has bright eyes, they can turn to a darker colour when threatening people. He wears a black shirt that has the top unbuttoned and black trousers with a belt. He wears a necklace which has a small ball adorned on it.
Personality[]
While he originally comes off as very threatening, he has a playful personality when it comes to things that interest him, which can be seen when first meeting Fuuko. He becomes serious when he battles and is very confident in his fighting capabilities. Unlike all other UMAs, he sees humanity as a worthy opponent to battle against and not underestimate their potential. Cool-headed and tactical, he is able to coordinate with Language an assassination on Ichico to prevent the Negators from getting the upper hand. He does miss things however, such as Lan's obsession's with Nico and the danger his Negator ability holds.
While he does not outright show it, he cares deeply for his fellow Superior Master Rules as he says his farewells to Beast when the latter is slain by Top, and shows sadness when Lan apologizes for losing.
Plot[]
History[]
When the world first started, God added humans in the world through Soul to find "the greatest life". But while the other UMAs were created by Sun, Soul was the only one created by Luna for a purpose unknown even to him. According to Time, Soul never moved, and so God grew bored for this, prompting him to add the other Master Rules.
Sick Arc[]
After Fuuko Izumo enters and attacks the Master Rules, he welcomes Fuuko into the Master Room before jumping over to question her actions. He threatens to kill Fuuko and replacing her with someone who "knows how to stay in line", but after hearing Fuuko's reasoning for attacking being to test a theory comes to like her confident and risky attitude. As an apology for intimidating her, he offers to answer one question of Fuuko's.
When Fuuko asks for the whereabouts of Andy, he summons an image of the Sun while mentioning that instead of the system being faulty, Andy is in fact on the Sun using his Soul to keep them trapped and that they can only escape through the mandatory teleportation function of Quests. He then goes on to confirm that this was the reason they never appeared despite Fuuko's large amount of passes during quest seasons, and that only Sick being the weakest Master Rule was able to escape due to an opening appearing in the last 200 years.
However, he then states that when Andy latched onto Sick when he arrived on Earth has caused a tiny rift in to form, before stating that this will allow another Master Rule to appear in Quests in the future. While Move creates a rift to allow Fuuko to leave the Master Room, he playfully questions whether Andy asked Fuuko to save him, before laughing and stating "I hope so" after Fuuko retorts the question before the rift between them closes.
Unstoppable Arc[]
On September 30th 2015, Apocalypse calls the Master Room in order to get Master Rule representatives for the next quests, stating he needs a minimum of 2 Master Rules to participate and lifting the protection for 3 minutes. When Apocalypse removes Andy's Soul Protection, the First Master Rule asks which of the Master Rules will be going. After each of the Master Rules answer that they want to be the ones to join, he suggests that all of them go as Sick alone almost wiped out the Union members, before mentioning that Andy is even more adamant to stop them this time around as the latter drops in from above.
When Andy attacks the Master Rules with Soul Vulcan, he casually swats the attack away while Change goes to attack Andy. When Andy releases Soul Chains to capture the Master Rules, the First Master Rule is the only one who prevents being captured by smacking the chain away before explaining to the 7th Master Rule that it took hundreds of millions of years for Andy to move his body with his Soul, which is why his attack didn't work. He then says "I'm flattered" at Andy's belief in souls before saying that in his experience, people like Andy don't believe in their existence.
After this, he forms a soul sword and clashes with attacks with Andy, with Apocalypse saying that there is One Minute until the rift closes. Even though Andy's soul blades are cracking, he is surprised that he is being kept in check despite being the first seat and Andy being preoccupied with keeping the Soul Chains on the other Master Rules active. He then decides to try and end the fight quickly by using Soul Road, and is amazed when Andy is able to compete with this attack despite not being a Vessel of his, before stating that Andy is "This Loop's Strongest Negator".
When Andy releases Beast and Language from his Soul Chains with 10 seconds remaining, he says that Andy is underestimating him before saying he will crush Andy in three seconds to allow all the Master Rules free. However, Beast and Language leave the Sun instead before Apocalypse announces that their 3 minutes are up, to his dismay.
As Andy is teleported back to the surface of the Sun, he mentions that Andy had purposely let those 2 Master Rules free due to their lower ranks, before questioning whether that was a wise decision as they are still strong Rules in their own right. He mutters "What a drag" as he knows that Andy's trust in Fuuko was why those 2 were allowed to leave, calling it gross.
During the fight against Beast, Fuuko realizes the identity of the First Rule added is Soul, and with the knowledge starts using Unluck in more esoteric ways to fight against Beast.
As the battle continues, Soul reaches Luna on the moon, commenting on the progress Fuuko and Haruka have made and asking Luna what the reason for creating him and her true goal is. Despite getting no response, Soul watches the fight against Beast until the end, witnessing his defeat and promising him that they would see each other again if they won.
Language Arc[]
Returning to the Master Room, he is demanded by Change to explain how the Negators managed to defeat Beast. Soul explains that the nature of Souls, and their ability to record the Negators that previously held them, is what gives humanity the potential to win. He then states that Negators will defeat the Master Rules should they all figure out the intricacies of Soul's rule, riling them up before Souls tells them to calm down, stating they'd never beat him even if they tried. He then states to prevent Fuuko from telling the others, he has the already manifested Language use her power on her and the team as they are returning to the Union base to prevent them from talking while the UMA invades the Union base to kill Ichico Nemuri due to being the only person who understands souls best in this loop.
Unfortunately, he soon realizes he should have had Lan target Nico as well when the Negator's Unforgettable makes him far more dangerous than Ichico when he forces her to admit truthfully where all souls go when they pass on to revive Ichico and Feng. When Nico, Ichico, and Feng push the exploding fake Sun into a wormhole leading into the Master Room, Soul is initially dumbstruck before having everyone else move out of the way so he can deal with it. He looks sadly at Lan as she apologizes for loosing.
Unchaste Arc[]
Abilities[]
- Soul Manipulation: As the physical manifestation of Souls, he has the ability to manifest his Soul and create objects with it, which was demonstrated when he created a Soul Sword to clash with Andy when he attacked the Master Room.
- Soul Road: An ability to project his soul into a massive beam to attack opponents with. This was used in an attempt to defeat Andy to allow all the Master Rules to escape, but clashed with Andy's own Soul Road.
